Nga Tran et al.

Summary: In this study, the activity and stability of different metal catalysts in vapor-phase HDO process were investigated, revealing that bimetallic Pd-Co and Pd-Fe catalysts showed higher HDO yield and stability compared to monometallic catalysts, with Pd-Fe catalyst demonstrating higher stability and regeneration ability.

Enhancing Hydrodeoxygenation of Bio-oil via Bimetallic Ni-V Catalysts Modified by Cross-Surface Migrated-Carbon from Biochar

Yujian Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, biochar-modified H beta/Ni-V catalysts were prepared and tested for the atmospheric HDO of bio-oil to produce aromatics. The catalysts showed higher HDO activity and aromatic selectivity, with the pine nut shell biochar-modified catalyst exhibiting the highest aromatic yield. The synergistic effect between PB and H beta/Ni-V, including surface migration of carbon layer and enhanced active sites, led to improved hydrogenation and deoxygenation activities, ultimately enhancing the HDO performance of the catalysts.

Bimetallic Ni-Re catalysts for the efficient hydrodeoxygenation of biomass-derived phenols

Cheol Woo Park et al.

Summary: The development of non-noble metal-based catalysts for the hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) upgrading of biomass pyrolysis oils is crucial for cost-effective biofuel production. The rhenium-promoted nickel catalysts (Ni-Re) showed significantly higher HDO activity compared to other monometallic and bimetallic catalysts. The addition of rhenium to nickel altered both geometric and electronic structures, leading to enhanced catalytic activity for deoxygenation of biomass-derived phenols.

Selective upgrading of biomass-derived benzylic ketones by (formic acid)-Pd/HPC-NH2 system with high efficiency under ambient conditions

Honghui Ning et al.

Summary: Pd supported on -NH2-modified hierarchically porous carbon with formic acid as hydrogen source exhibits unprecedented performance for the selective HDO of benzylic ketones from crude lignin-derived oxygenates. This green route enables the production of transportation fuels or valuable chemicals from only biomass under mild conditions, achieving a higher TOF compared to traditional HDO processes.

DFT study of phenol alkylation with propylene on H-BEA in the absence and presence of water

Sajal Kanti Dutta et al.

Summary: In this study, ab initio density functional theory calculations were used to investigate the alkylation mechanisms of phenol with propylene. The results showed that H-BEA catalysis significantly reduces the activation barrier and enhances the reaction rate, while the presence of water also plays a role in lowering the activation energy for the reaction.
