Efficient absorption of low partial pressure SO2 by deep eutectic solvents based on pyridine derivatives

Qiang Wang et al.

Summary: Efficient and reversible absorption of SO2 by a new type of deep eutectic solvents (DESs) synthesized in this study has been achieved, particularly for low concentration SO2. The studied DESs demonstrated superior SO2 absorption performance compared to most DESs and ILs, with the absorption mechanism attributed to the chemical interaction between the pyridine nitrogen atom and SO2.

Highly efficient and reversible low-concentration SO2 absorption in flue gas using novel phosphonium-based deep eutectic solvents with different substituents

Yongqi Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, four low-viscosity deep eutectic solvents (DES) were synthesized with different substituents and their effectiveness in low-concentration SO2 absorption was systematically investigated. The experimental results demonstrated that EG-MTPB DES exhibited higher SO2 absorption capacity and lower viscosity, making it suitable for industrial flue gas desulfurization applications.

The absorption of SO2 by morpholine cyclic amines with sulfolane as the solvent for flue gas

Can Cheng et al.

Summary: This study found that N-(2-hydroxyethyl) morpholine has the best absorption performance for SO2 when used with sulfolane as a solvent, with its absorption capacity remaining above 97.5% of the first cycle in the second cycle. The other two absorbents, morpholine and N-(2-aminoethyl) morpholine, did not perform as well as the former.

Specific Heat Capacity of Non-Functional and Functional Ionic Liquids during the Absorption of SO2

Bingru Wang et al.

Summary: This study measured the specific heat capacities of six ILs and found that the specific heat capacities of ILs increase with temperature regardless of the presence of absorbed SO2. The specific heat capacity of ILs also increases with the amount of absorbed SO2. Additionally, the length of anionic alkyl side chains in ILs affects the specific heat capacity of SO2 absorption.

Sulfate ionic liquids impregnated 2D boron nitride nanosheets for trace SO2 capture with high capacity and selectivity

Wen-Qiang Gong et al.

Summary: The study prepared a kind of sulfate functionalized ILs impregnated hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets for capture of low-concentration SO2, showing high uptake, selectivity, and fast adsorption rate. The material demonstrated excellent separation performance and reversibility in dynamic column breakthrough tests for removing 2000 ppm SO2 in a mixture of SO2/CO2/N-2.

Investigation of tertiary amine-based PILs for ideal efficient SO2 capture from CO2

Zeyu Geng et al.

Summary: Four tertiary amine-based protic ionic liquids have been designed and tested for SO2 uptake, showing a high capacity for SO2 and a high selectivity for SO2/CO2 separation. The kinetic study demonstrated their efficient and quick absorption of SO2 under ambient pressure. Due to their excellent recyclability and fast absorption process, these PILs are considered as a potential alternative to traditional absorbents in flue gas desulfurization (FGD).
