Progress, current thinking and challenges in geopolymer foam concrete technology

K. Dhasindrakrishna et al.

Summary: Geopolymer foam concrete (GFC) with its porous structure offers lightweight, acoustic and thermal insulation, and fire resistance properties, which are influenced by materials, foaming methods, curing conditions, and additives. Further research is needed in understanding fresh properties, durability, and processing techniques to facilitate industrial applications and the development of 3D printable GFC.

CO2 Pretreatment to Aerated Concrete with High-Volume Industry Wastes Enables a Sustainable Precast Concrete Industry

Dongming Yan et al.

Summary: The aeration of concrete blended with high-volume industry wastes may enhance the sustainability of the precast concrete industry by improving carbonation efficiency. CO2 pretreatment significantly altered the mineral composition and pore structure of the aerated concrete blocks, leading to increased carbonation extent, crystal size, and compressive strength. This technique could potentially reduce millions of tons of CO2 emissions in the precast aerated concrete industry.

Properties of foamed concrete with Ca(OH)2 as foam stabilizer

Xiong Yuanliang et al.

Summary: In this study, Ca(OH)(2) was used as a foam stabilizer to improve the stability of fresh foam and enhance the properties of foamed concrete. The inclusion of Ca(OH)(2) can hinder the disproportionation and coalescence of bubbles by reacting with alumina on the bubble surface, thus improving foam stability and achieving a finer, more homogeneous pore structure for better performance of foamed concrete.

Collapse of fresh foam concrete: Mechanisms and influencing parameters

K. Dhasindrakrishna et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the influence of rheology and density on the collapse behavior of mechanically foamed fresh aerated concrete, identifying the critical yield stress for stability and its relationship with foam content. It was found that the experimentally determined critical yield stress to prevent foam collapse aligns well with the drainage-based stability criteria.
