High performance of Au/ZTC based catalysts for the selective oxidation of bio-derivative furfural to 2-furoic acid

Georgia Papanikolaou et al.

Summary: The high performance of the Au/ZTC catalyst in the selective oxidation of furfural to 2-fumic acid was reported for the first time, showing potential for developing electrodes with better performance than commercial Vulcan. The weak acidity on ZTC helps to avoid unwanted reactions, leading to high selectivity in furfural conversion.

Synthesis of Novel Biolubricants from Waste Cooking Oil and Cyclic Oxygenates through an Integrated Catalytic Process

Hossein Jahromi et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel approach to produce biolubricants through the reaction between waste cooking oil and cyclic oxygenated hydrocarbons. The resulting biolubricants have long hydrocarbon chains, low unsaturation, naphthenic rings, and polar molecules, demonstrating good pour-point, viscosity, viscosity index, and volatility properties.

Acid-Catalyzed Conversion of Cellulose Into Levulinic Acid With Biphasic Solvent System

Changyue Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, a method for acid-catalyzed conversion of cellulose into levulinic acid in a biphasic solvent system was developed, using Amberlyst-15 as the catalyst. The biphasic solvent system was found to promote cellulose conversion and suppress by-product polymerization. The optimized conditions resulted in a high yield of levulinic acid, providing an economical and environmentally friendly approach for value-added chemical production.

Pd-Catalysed Decarbonylation Free Approach to Carbonylative Esterification of 5-HMF to Its Aryl Esters Synthesis Using Aryl Halides and Oxalic Acid as C1 Source

Arvind Singh Chauhan et al.

Summary: A decarbonylation free, polystyrene-supported, Pd (Pd@PS)-catalysed carbonylative esterification of 5-hydroxymethyl furfural (5-HMF) has been developed, showing a broad substrate scope, good yield, and recyclability of the catalyst. The study highlights the important role of polystyrene support in avoiding decarbonylation of 5-HMF.
