Speeding-up image-based simulation of two-phase flow in porous media with lattice-Boltzmann method using three-dimensional curvelet transforms

Abdullah Aljasmi et al.

Summary: The study proposes a method to accelerate image-based computations for simulating multiphase flow with the color-fluid lattice Boltzmann method, successfully speeding up the calculations. In simulations of two-phase flow problems, the method demonstrates a significant acceleration in computations.

Spontaneous imbibition in tight porous media with different wettability: Pore-scale simulation

Wei Lin et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigates the effects of wettability on the pore-scale flow physics during spontaneous imbibition. Results show that wettability significantly affects the morphological characteristics of the imbibition fronts and the recovery degree of nonwetting fluids.

Modeling the Impact of Rhizosphere Bulk Density and Mucilage Gradients on Root Water Uptake

Magdalena Landl et al.

Summary: This study identified significant differences in hydraulic properties between rhizosphere and bulk soil due to root-soil interactions, particularly related to rhizosphere compaction or loosening and mucilage deposition. Lower rhizosphere bulk density led to earlier water stress onset and reduced root water uptake during soil drying, while mucilage presence resulted in faster reduction of root water uptake. The effects of both rhizosphere bulk density and mucilage concentration gradients on soil water dynamics depended on initial soil conditions, soil type, and bulk densities, serving as measures to sustain transpiration at a lower level and prevent fast dehydration.
