Geostatistical models with the use of hyperspectral data and seasonal variation - A new approach for evaluating the risk posed by invasive plants

Summary: The study applied a novel approach combining geostatistical interpolators and environmental hyperspectral data to evaluate and predict the occurrence probabilities of two invasive plant species in southern Poland, providing the first prediction maps and Digital Prediction Models visualizations. The results demonstrate the potential of this method to offer high precision, low cost, and effective prediction and monitoring of invasive plant spread.

Hyperspectral Reflectance and Indices for Characterizing the Dynamics of Crop-Weed Competition for Water

Summary: This study focused on the competition between corn and redroot pigweed, aiming to characterize the physiological changes in corn during early growth due to crop-weed competition and examine the ability to detect competition effects through hyperspectral measurements. The results showed that the presence of weeds led to reductions in relative water content, chlorophyll content, photosynthetic rate, and stomatal conductance in corn, with increased intercellular CO2 levels. Additionally, deeper SWIR light absorption and spectral changes in the VIS and NIR ranges were observed in the weed treatment, supporting the potential of using spectral measurements as an indicator of competition for water.
