Isoconversional analysis of kinetic pyrolysis of virgin polystyrene and its two real-world packaging wastes

Xuan Ren et al.

Summary: A comparison of EPS, YPS, and PS in high-temperature nitrogen pyrolysis experiments showed that EPS is the most readily pyrolyzed, while YPS is the most thermally stable. Kinetic analysis revealed that activation energies are mass conversion-dependent, with YPS having the highest average activation energy.

Dynamic pyrolysis behaviors, products, and mechanisms of waste rubber and polyurethane bicycle tires

Xiaojie Tang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the pyrolysis behavior, gaseous products, and reaction mechanisms of waste bicycle tires (RT) and polyurethane tires (PUT) using thermogravimetry (TG), TG-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (TG-FTIR), and pyrolysis-gas chromato-graphy/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS). The results showed that the decomposition of PUT was easier compared to RT, as confirmed by kinetic, thermodynamic, and comprehensive pyrolysis index data. The pyrolysis mechanism models for RT were described by two-dimensional diffusion and two second-order models, while PUT was best described by three consecutive reaction-order models.

Pyrolysis Kinetic Behaviour of Glass Fibre-Reinforced Epoxy Resin Composites Using Linear and Nonlinear Isoconversional Methods

Samy Yousef et al.

Summary: This research aimed to study the effect of mechanical pre-treatment on the pyrolysis behavior and kinetic of GFRC. Experimental panels were prepared and milled, with the thermal and chemical decomposition of the milled GFRC studied using TG-FTIR and TG-GC-MS. The kinetic analysis revealed activation energies ranging from 165 to 193 KJ/mol using different isoconversional methods.

Determining Preexponential Factor in Model-Free Kinetic Methods: How and Why?

Sergey Vyazovkin

Summary: This article highlights the importance of determining the preexponential factor as an integral part of model-free kinetic analysis and the compensation effect as an efficient method for evaluating it. Experimental effects often involve changes in both activation energy and preexponential factor, and are better understood by combining both parameters into the rate constant.

A Comparative Study on Suitability of Model-Free and Model-Fitting Kinetic Methods to Non-Isothermal Degradation of Lignocellulosic Materials

Hamayoun Mahmood et al.

Summary: Thermal kinetic modeling is crucial for sustainable processes involving lignocellulosic fuels, with thermal decomposition of three materials analyzed using both model-fitting and isoconversional methods. The activation energy order based on model-free analysis is rice husk > bagasse > wheat straw, recommending isoconversional approach as more realistic and precise for modeling non-isothermal kinetics of lignocellulosic residues.
