Predicting the outcomes of interpolyelectrolyte neutralization at surfaces on the basis of complexation experiments and vice versa

Jasmina Jukic et al.

Summary: This study explored the correlation between complexation and multilayer formation processes in solutions of vinylic polyions, revealing a series of events at different salt concentrations and the relationship between extrinsically compensated charge and polycation affinities toward counteranions. Perfect analogy was noticed in terms of counteranion influence on the amount of adsorbed polycation for corresponding multilayers.

Self-Patterning Polyelectrolyte Multilayer Films: Influence of Deposition Steps and Drying in a Vacuum

Amir Azinfar et al.

Summary: The study investigated the self-patterning of polyelectrolyte multilayers consisting of PDADMA and PSSshort, showing that as more bilayers are added, the surface structures evolve into stripes and circular domains, with the average distance between them monotonously increasing with film thickness. The effect of exposure to vacuum on film thinning and domain distance was found to be weaker for PSSshort-terminated films compared to PDADMA-terminated films.

Effect of Terminal Groups on Thermomechanical and Dielectric Properties of Silica-Epoxy Composite Modified by Hyperbranched Polyester

Jianwen Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of hyperbranched polyester with different terminal groups on the thermomechanical and dielectric properties of silica-epoxy resin composites. The results showed that hyperbranched polyester significantly improved the properties of the composites, with terminal groups playing a crucial role in the enhancement effect. The analysis revealed that the systems grafted with hyperbranched polyester exhibited stronger interfacial bonding and weaker molecular segment motion, leading to improved properties.

Ion-Specific and Solvent Effects on PDADMA-PSS Complexation and Multilayer Formation

Jasmina Jukic et al.

Summary: The study revealed the significant effects of ion-specific and solvent effects on the formation of polyelectrolyte complexes and multilayers. In mixed solvent solutions, a higher ethanol mole fraction led to an increase in the size of complexes, with a more pronounced difference between chloride and bromide ions. These findings suggest potential applications in designing polyelectrolyte multilayers with tuned properties in biomedicine.
