Are nickel- and titanium- doped fullerenes suitable adsorbents for dopamine in an aqueous solution? Detailed DFT and AIM studies

Summary: This study investigated the enhancement of fullerene C60 polarity in water by doping titanium and nickel atoms, and explored the adsorption of dopamine on generated metallofullerenes using density functional theory. The results showed that the most energetically favorable positions had adsorption energy values of -311.4 and -157.8 kJ/mol using Ti- and Ni-doped fullerene, respectively. Atom in molecule (AIM) calculations revealed the ionic bond responsible for attaching dopamine molecule to each metallofullerene, with detailed analysis from the perspective of quantum chemistry.

Summary: The study found that increasing wood waste content resulted in certain properties of the composite materials increasing, such as modulus, porosity, and water absorption, while other properties decreased such as density, tensile strength, impact strength, and stress at break. However, the flexural strength of the composites remained relatively constant. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis showed that wood waste helped increase the glass transition and cold crystallization temperature of PLA composites.
