Characteristics of chitosan fiber and their effects towards improvement of antibacterial activity

Jianhui Li et al.

Summary: In this study, we characterized and analyzed eight types of chitosan fibers in terms of their composition, surface morphology, and mechanical properties. We also investigated the antibacterial activity of these fibers against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans, and examined the relationship between antibacterial activity and the molecular weight and degree of deacetylation. Additionally, we determined the antibacterial mechanism of chitosan fibers. The findings provide insights into the properties of chitosan fibers and offer effective strategies for enhancing their antibacterial activity and applications in antibacterial textiles.

Chitosan-encapsulated nitric oxide donors enhance physiological recovery of sugarcane plants after water deficit

Neidiquele M. Silveira et al.

Summary: The encapsulation of NO donors, specifically SNAC, GSNO, and SNP, showed varying effects on sugarcane plants under water deficit conditions. SNAC spraying partially attenuated the negative impact of water deficit, while GSNO and SNAC spraying improved sugarcane photosynthesis during the recovery period. However, SNP spraying was not effective in mitigating water deficit effects on sugarcane plants. Overall, leaf spraying with SNAC or GSNO is an alternative to improve the physiological performance of sugarcane plants after water deficit, leading to a rapid recovery of photosynthesis and potentially increased crop yield.
