Thermo-Electro-Mechanical Simulation of Electro-Active Composites

Anas Kanan et al.

Summary: This paper presents a computational thermo-electro-mechanical framework for simulating the coupling between the mechanical, electrical, and thermal fields in nonhomogeneous electro-active materials. Finite element simulations are used to study the behavior of composite materials consisting of a soft matrix and a stiff inclusion under different conditions, such as varying initial temperatures, different volume fractions, and various aspect ratios of the inclusion. The response of the structure beyond the limit point of electro-mechanical instability is also investigated.

Preliminary Study on Mechanical Aspects of 3D-Printed PLA-TPU Composites

Alicja Zur et al.

Summary: This article presents the research on multicomponent composites produced using FDM technology. The performance of 3D printed composite samples was assessed through static three-point bending tests and finite element analysis, and the influence of suspension stiffness on motion trajectory was verified.

Thermo-Electro-Mechanical Characterization of PDMS-Based Dielectric Elastomer Actuators

Konrad Katzer et al.

Summary: This paper aims to characterize the thermo-electro-mechanical behavior of PDMS-based dielectric elastomer actuators (DEA). An experimental setup was used to evaluate the behavior of PDMS-based DEA under different mechanical loading rates, ambient temperatures, and applied electric voltages. The influence of the solid electrode on the dielectric layer's surface was also investigated. This study focuses on the production of DEA, the experimental setup, and the interpretation and evaluation of mechanical hysteresis loops obtained. Finite element modeling was used to simulate the passive and electro-mechanically active response of the material. A comparison between experimental and simulation results was conducted.

A molecular dynamics-based investigation on tribological properties of functionalized graphene reinforced thermoplastic polyurethane nanocomposites

Animesh Talapatra et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that adding functionalized monolayer graphene can significantly enhance the mechanical properties of thermoplastic polyurethane, especially with the addition of 3 wt.%. Additionally, under the condition of adding 3 wt.% of functionalized monolayer graphene, the coefficient of friction and abrasion rate reach their minimum values, showing varying levels of change under different sliding velocities.

Mechanical and EMI shielding properties of solid and microcellular TPU/nanographite composite membranes

Xinyang Li et al.

Summary: The addition of an appropriate amount of nanographite can improve the mechanical and EMI shielding performance of TPU/graphite composite materials. While microcellular foaming compromises the tensile properties of the composites, it can significantly enhance elasticity and reduce hysteresis loss, making the materials more resilient.

Thermal Conductivity of Polybutadiene Rubber from Molecular Dynamics Simulations and Measurements by the Heat Flow Meter Method

Aleksandr Vasilev et al.

Summary: Thermal conductivities of polybutadiene rubbers crosslinked by 2.4 and 2.8 phr of sulfur were found to be functions of temperature through molecular dynamics simulations, showing good agreement with literature and experimental data. Heat transport in rubbers was revealed to be governed by deformations of polymeric chains, as analyzed from the heat flux autocorrelation functions.

Effect of the Molecular Structure of TPU on the Cellular Structure of Nanocellular Polymers Based on PMMA/TPU Blends

Ismael Sanchez-Calderon et al.

Summary: By changing the chemistry and concentration of thermoplastic polyurethane, the cellular structure of nanocellular polymers based on poly(methyl-methacrylate) can be controlled. Increasing the content of hard segments or TPU leads to higher cell nucleation density and smaller cell size. Nanocellular polymers have been achieved with a core relative density between 0.15 and 0.20 and cell sizes between 220 and 640 nm.
