Improving Ramie Fibers Softness Using Ionic Liquid Treatment

Wanwan Lv et al.

Summary: This study investigated the treatment of degummed ramie fibers using different concentrations of ionic liquid solutions. The results showed that the treatment effectively improved the mechanical properties and softness of the fibers, while also enhancing their water absorption and breaking elongation. Consequently, ramie fibers treated with ionic liquid may have better potential for use in textile production.

Influence of Lignin Content and Pressing Time on Plywood Properties Bonded with Cold-Setting Adhesive Based on Poly (Vinyl Alcohol), Lignin, and Hexamine

Muhammad Adly Rahandi Lubis et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the addition of 10% and 15% lignin content in the adhesive resulted in better cohesion strength compared to that with 20% lignin content. However, statistical analysis revealed that using 20% lignin in the adhesive and a cold-pressing time of 24 h could produce plywood comparable to control polyurethane resins. This eco-friendly plywood bonded with PVOH-lignin-hexamine-based adhesive using cold pressing showed promising potential as an alternative to conventional plywood production.

Fractionation of lignin using organic solvents: A combined experimental and theoretical study

Veerapandian Ponnuchamy et al.

Summary: The study investigated the single-step fractionation of industrial hardwood kraft lignin using different polarity organic solvents. The experimental results showed that higher polarity solvents such as ethanol and acetone had higher solubility yield. Density functional theory (DFT) results indicated that ethanol had the highest interaction energy, followed by acetone, diethyl ether, and hexane.

Lignin-Based Polyurethane: Recent Advances and Future Perspectives

Xiaozhen Ma et al.

Summary: Lignin has been explored as a raw material for polyurethane synthesis due to its abundance, renewable nature, and surface hydroxyl groups. It offers superior product performance without competing with food supply. Challenges such as product isolation, heterogeneity, aggregation, steric hindrance, and low activity hinder its full utilization in polyurethane production.

Enhancing Thermal and Mechanical Properties of Ramie Fiber via Impregnation by Lignin-Based Polyurethane Resin

Sucia Okta Handika et al.

Summary: Lignin isolated from black liquor was used to prepare Bio-PU resin, which was impregnated into ramie fiber to enhance its thermal and mechanical properties. The impregnation process resulted in weight gain and improved thermal and mechanical properties of the ramie fiber, making it suitable for a wider range of industrial applications.

Recent Developments in Lignin- and Tannin-Based Non-Isocyanate Polyurethane Resins for Wood Adhesives-A Review

Manggar Arum Aristri et al.

Summary: This review article summarizes the potential of using renewable resources like lignin and tannin for preparing non-isocyanate polyurethane (NIPU) wood adhesives. Research has shown that NIPUs based on lignin and tannin offer advantages such as improved strength, lower curing temperatures, shorter pressing times, and being isocyanate-free.
