Temperature-Dependent Synergistic Effect of Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes and Graphene Nanoplatelets on the Tensile Quasi-Static and Fatigue Properties of Epoxy Nanocomposites

Yi-Ming Jen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of temperature on the mechanical properties of polymer nanocomposites, specifically the fatigue behavior of hybrid polymer nanocomposites. It was found that nanocomposites with a MWCNT:GNP ratio of 9:1 exhibit higher strength and endurance at different temperatures, with an increased synergistic effect at higher temperatures. The study also reveals that the reinforcement mechanisms of crack deflection and bridging by nanofillers play a key role in improving the studied properties.

The Influence of Sonication Processing Conditions on Electrical and Mechanical Properties of Single and Hybrid Epoxy Nanocomposites Filled with Carbon Nanoparticles

Matheus Mendes de Oliveira et al.

Summary: Graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) and carbon nanotubes (CNT) are used to enhance electrical and mechanical properties of epoxy-based nanocomposites. Direct and indirect ultrasonication methods were used to prepare single- and hybrid-filled GNP-CNT-epoxy nanocomposites, with results showing that high-power direct sonication degrades electrical conductivity in the nanocomposites while indirect sonication improves dispersion and conductivity. Dynamic mechanical analysis revealed that nanofillers improved epoxy's storage modulus by up to 84%, with processing parameters having limited effect on this property. However, the decrease in crosslinking degree and presence of residual solvent lowered the glass transition temperature due to plasticization effects.

Role of hybrid nanoparticles on thermal, electrical conductivity, microstructure, and hardness behavior of nanocomposite matrix

Salem S. Abdel Aziz et al.

Summary: In this study, wrought AA2024 alloy sheets were used as the base metal matrix and reinforced with SiC, BN nanoparticles, and VC particles to fabricate mono and hybrid metal matrix nanocomposites through friction stir process. The hybrid nanocomposite exhibited improved hardness, enhanced microstructure distribution, and reduced thermal conductivity compared to the base alloy and mono composites. The electrical conductivity was significantly affected by the volume fraction of reinforcement particles with different sizes.
