Rapid synaptic plasticity contributes to a learned conjunctive code of position and choice-related information in the hippocampus

Xinyu Zhao et al.

Summary: Knowing one's location and current activity is crucial for successful goal-directed navigation. Hippocampal neurons encode these variables conjunctively, but the mechanisms underlying the formation and flexible routing of this code to other brain regions are not well understood. This study found that plateau potentials in CA1 pyramidal neurons enhance synaptic inputs carrying conjunctive information about position and choice, and gradual learning is necessary for the formation of this conjunctive code.

PANTHER version 16: a revised family classification, tree-based classification tool, enhancer regions and extensive API

Huaiyu Mi et al.

Summary: PANTHER is a resource for evolutionary and functional classification of protein-coding genes, with extensive improvements made in the past two years, including the refactoring of Protein Class ontology and addition of services for programmatic access. The resource provides comprehensive classification and annotation information for genes from different taxonomic groups and also allows users to add their own protein sequences for evolutionary context and fine-grained annotations.

A taxonomy of transcriptomic cell types across the isocortex and hippocampal formation

Zizhen Yao et al.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive analysis of cell types in the mammalian isocortex and hippocampal formation, revealing a shared neural circuit organization between the two structures. The research also uncovers large-scale variations in cell types along different dimensions within these brain regions.
