Analytic exposition of the graviton modes in fractional quantum Hall effects and its physical implications

Yuzhu Wang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the neutral excitations in fractional quantum Hall droplets and their defining role in the incompressibility gap of topological phase. Analytical results for the energy gaps of graviton modes are derived, and model Hamiltonians for graviton modes in different FQH phases are constructed. A hierarchical structure of conformal Hilbert spaces is elucidated with respect to graviton modes and their corresponding ground states. Numerical analysis focuses on the Laughlin nu = 1/5 and Gaffnian nu = 2/5 phases, revealing that low-lying neutral excitations can undergo phase transitions in gapped phases even when the ground state is invariant. The compressibility of the Gaffnian phase, possibility of multiple graviton modes, and transition from graviton modes to hollow-core modes are discussed, along with their experimental consequences.

Quench Dynamics of Collective Modes in Fractional Quantum Hall Bilayers

Zhao Liu et al.

Summary: This paper introduces different types of quenches to probe the nonequilibrium dynamics and multiple collective modes of bilayer fractional quantum Hall states, showing oscillations of a spin-1 degree of freedom induced by applying an electric field and activation of quadrupole mode and combination of two spin-1 states by a sudden change of band mass anisotropy. An effective field theory is constructed to describe the quench dynamics of these collective modes, with excellent agreement between the derived dynamics for both the spin-2 and spin-1 states and numerical results demonstrated.

A non-Abelian parton state for the ν = 2

Ajit Coimbatore Balram

Summary: The study focuses on the fractional quantum Hall effect at the even denominator fraction of 2 + 3/8, revealing a quantized Hall plateau. The non-Abelian state described by a specific parton wave function is identified as a feasible candidate for the ground state at this fraction, with predictions made for experimentally measurable properties that can reveal its underlying topological structure.

Parton wave function for the fractional quantum Hall effect at ν = 6/17

Ajit C. Balram et al.

Summary: In this study, the fractional quantum Hall effect at the filling nu = 6/17 was examined, and a new parton state 3 (2) over bar1(3) was proposed as a feasible candidate to capture the ground state. The low-energy effective theory of this parton state was derived, and several predictions for experimentally measurable properties were made to help detect its underlying topological order. Interestingly, it was found that the 3 (2) over bar1(3) state likely belongs to the same universality class as the state obtained from composite-fermionizing the 1 + 1/5 Laughlin state.

Abelian parton state for the ν=4/11 fractional quantum Hall effect

Ajit C. Balram

Summary: The study focuses on the fractional quantum Hall effect at the filling factor nu = 4/11, identifying a plausible ground state described by the 4 (2) over bar1(3) parton wave function. Predictions are made for experimentally measurable properties of this state based on the low-energy effective theory of the 4 (2) over bar1(3) edge.

Unconventional Zn parton states at ν=7/3: Role of finite width

William N. Faugno et al.

Summary: Recent work suggests that unconventional Z(n) superconductivity may be energetically better than the Laughlin wave function under certain conditions, but current experimental results do not support this conclusion. By studying the effect of finite width, a phase transition from an unconventional state to the Laughlin state is predicted in certain cases.
