Implementation of two policies to extend maternity leave and further restrict marketing of breast milk substitutes in Vietnam: a qualitative study

Summary: This study investigates the implementation of breastfeeding promotion policies in Vietnam using a qualitative approach. The findings indicate several positive outcomes resulting from the implementation of extended maternity leave policy and further restrictions on marketing of breast milk substitutes. Key implementation actors include national-level bureaucratic actors, local organizations, and international partners. However, challenges such as insufficient funding, limited training, cumbersome reporting processes, and pervasive misinformation are also identified.

Determinants of Perceived Accessibility of Maternity Leave and Childcare Leave in South Korea

Summary: This study examined the determinants of perceived accessibility of maternity leave and childcare leave in South Korea. The results revealed that nonregular workers, workers in the private sector, non-union members, employees of small firms, those working long hours, and low-wage workers were significantly less likely to perceive the policies as accessible. The study emphasizes that the accessibility of leave policies in Korea is significantly correlated with women's employment status and wage level in the labor market.

Summary: Despite Vietnam having a strong regulatory environment for protecting, promoting, and supporting breastfeeding, there are implementation, monitoring, and enforcement gaps. Stronger enforcement of national policies is needed to regulate the presence of BMS industry representatives in health facilities as well as the promotion of BMS products on digital platforms.

The financing need of equitable provision of paid maternal leave in the informal sector in Indonesia: a comparison of estimation methods

Summary: Providing an enabling environment for breastfeeding is hindered by the unequal implementation of paid maternity leave due to perceived or actual financial costs. This study compared two methods used to estimate the cost of paid maternity leave in Indonesia, one for the formal sector and the other for the informal sector. The results showed differences in the number of mothers covered, total annual costs, and cost per mother between the two methods.
