Evaluation of Residents' Timing of Return to or New Settlement in Kawauchi Village, at 10 Years after the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Accident

Summary: This study examined the timing and factors related to residents returning to or newly settling in Kawauchi village after the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident. The findings showed that residents who returned in the early phase had higher satisfaction with their current lives and better stress management, despite experiencing a serious nuclear disaster.

The relationship between geographical region and perceptions of radiation risk after the Fukushima accident: The mediational role of knowledge

Summary: Since the Fukushima accident, radiation risk perception has been a topic of concern. This study assessed the validity of a radiation risk perception scale and investigated the relationship between perception, geographical regions, and knowledge of genetic effects. The results showed significant associations between perception, genetic risk, and geographical region, with knowledge mediating the relationship.

The experiences in Kawauchi, Tomioka, and Ohkuma have shown that the cooperation of residents, local authorities, and specialists is crucial for the recovery of areas affected by the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station accident.

Mental Health Consequences of the Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima Nuclear Disasters: A Scoping Review

Summary: This study reviewed the long-term mental health consequences of the Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima nuclear disasters, finding that more than half of the participants evaluated were categorized into low or under-threshold symptom groups in all three incidents. Radiation exposure level estimated by the proximity and stigma were common risk factors for mental health outcomes across the three disasters.
