The Importance of Family and School Protective Factors in Preventing the Risk Behaviors of Youth

Summary: The aim of this study was to examine the associations between protective factors within a family and school context with adolescent risk behaviors. The findings showed that school attachment, school commitment, and family satisfaction were associated with gambling, substance use, violence, and sexual risk behavior. However, family protective factors were not significantly related to risk behaviors in some cases.

The Mental Health Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Children and Adolescents: Risk and Protective Factors

Results show significant increases in anxiety, depression, panic symptoms, screen time use, and decreases in positive emotions, life satisfaction, social media use, and peer support. Support from peers and family, as well as consistent daily routines, were found to be protective factors against mental health symptoms.

Correlates of COVID-19 pandemic-related increases in sleep aid and anti-anxiety medication use

Substances use between early and later stages of the COVID-19 pandemic in Israel

Findings revealed that participants who experienced two lockdowns reported higher frequency of alcohol and cannabis consumption than those who experienced only one lockdown. Summary: A study on the health of adolescent athletes during COVID-19-related school closures and sport cancellations in the United States found that females reported a higher prevalence of moderate to severe anxiety symptoms, with depression symptoms being most prevalent in team sport participants and least prevalent in individual sport participants. Additionally, athletes from counties with higher poverty levels had lower overall quality of life scores compared to those from counties with lower poverty levels.
