Statin treatment reduces the risk of death among elderly frail patients: evidence from a large population-based cohort

Federico Rea et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the protective effect of statins in a large cohort of frail elderly subjects. The findings showed that adherence to statin treatment reduced the risk of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality. However, the benefit of statin treatment may be lower in frail elderly patients compared to those in good clinical conditions.

Medication adherence in community-dwelling older people exposed to chronic polypharmacy

Carlotta Franchi et al.

Summary: This study reveals low medication adherence in community-dwelling older people on chronic polypharmacy, especially in women and the oldest old. Participation in experimental healthcare programs is associated with higher adherence, while being coprescribed with >= 10 drugs is linked to lower adherence across all drug classes.

Greater Adherence to Secondary Prevention Medications Improves Survival After Stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack A Linked Registry Study

Lachlan L. Dalli et al.

Summary: Higher levels of medication adherence after a stroke or TIA are associated with improved survival outcomes for patients. Each 10% increase in adherence to antihypertensive agents, statins, and nonaspirin antithrombotic agents was linked to a reduction in all-cause mortality of 13%, 13%, and 15% respectively.
