Sports participation and quality of life in individuals with visual impairment

Bayazit Ilhan et al.

Summary: The positive effects of sports participation on health in visually impaired individuals were examined in this study. Results showed that sports activities were positively correlated with all domains of quality of life, with duration of sports activities impacting Physical Functioning score. Appropriate sports activities could enhance rehabilitation programs and quality of life for individuals with visual impairment.

Multisensory spatial perception in visually impaired infants

Monica Gori et al.

Summary: This study investigated multisensory spatial perception in congenitally blind infants, revealing significant differences in responses to tactile and auditory stimuli compared to sighted infants. It suggests a distinct phenotype of multisensory spatial perception in visually impaired infants during early postnatal development.

Balance, gait, and navigation performance are related to physical exercise in blind and visually impaired children and adolescents

Ann-Kathrin Rogge et al.

Summary: Research suggests that blind and visually impaired children and adolescents differ from sighted controls in terms of postural stability and gait parameters, but not in gait parameters and navigation performance. Physically active individuals outperform sedentary peers in postural stability and gait parameters.

Auditory speed processing in sighted and blind individuals

Giorgia Bertonati et al.

Summary: The study found that individuals who are blind are more influenced by temporal cues rather than spatial cues when perceiving speed through audition, resulting in a stronger impairment in speed discrimination performance. Specifically, blind participants tend to rely more on the duration of sounds to determine speed, leading to occasional misperceptions in their speed judgments.

Conscious dance: Perceived benefits and psychological well-being of participants

Kelsey T. Laird et al.

Summary: Research shows that conscious dance has a positive impact on mental health, with participants who practice it long-term or frequently scoring higher on measures of psychological well-being. Most participants experience mindfulness and psychological flow during dance, and it has therapeutic effects for coping with stress-related health conditions.
