Can Enhancing Neuronal Activity Improve Myelin Repair in Multiple Sclerosis?

Summary: Enhanced neuronal activity in the healthy brain can induce new myelination and behavioral changes, showing potential for myelin repair in demyelinating disorders such as multiple sclerosis. Preclinical studies suggest that stimulating neuronal activity in demyelinated lesions can improve remyelination, but the most efficient stimulation protocols and biological mechanisms need further exploration. Clinical studies have also shown that non-invasive brain stimulation can ameliorate MS symptoms, although the exact mechanism of symptom improvement remains unclear.

Association vs. Prediction: The Impact of Cortical Surface Smoothing and Parcellation on Brain Age

Summary: This study examined the impact of different smoothing and parcellation levels on the detection of age-related brain correlates and brain age prediction accuracy using cortical thickness and its relationship with age. The results showed a negative relationship between prediction performance and correlation values, as well as quantifying the relationship between delta age estimates obtained based on different processing parameters. It also highlighted the importance of correct choice of smoothing and parcellation parameters in each task and their potential opposite effects on the analysis results.
