Suitability of Video Consultations During the COVID-19 Pandemic Lockdown: Cross-sectional Survey Among Norwegian General Practitioners

Tor Magne Johnsen et al.

Summary: During the COVID-19 pandemic, Norwegian general practitioners experienced a sharp increase in the use of video consultations (VCs), with most GPs finding VCs suitable for assessing patient problems, especially in cases with relational continuity. VCs were found to be most suitable for issues like anxiety, depression, and complex problems requiring multiple follow-up consultations. The study suggests a clear future role for VCs in non-pandemic settings, with the continuity of care playing a significant role in GPs' perceptions of VC suitability.

Impact of COVID-19 on the digital divide: a rapid review

Ian Litchfield et al.

Summary: The study aimed to identify the digital disparities in healthcare during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on digital access, literacy, and assimilation. Findings showed continued issues with internet connectivity among vulnerable patients in the UK, as well as ethnic minorities and the elderly being less likely to use digital technologies in accessing care. The study suggests that urgent attention is needed to address these persistent challenges in digital healthcare utilization among disadvantaged populations.

Use of alternative consultation forms in Danish general practice in the initial phase of the COVID-19 pandemic - a qualitative study

Tina Drud Due et al.

Summary: This study examined how GPs in Denmark reorganized their clinical work during the COVID-19 pandemic. It found that GPs experienced limitations with telephone and video consultations, but these alternatives were still valuable when face-to-face consultations had to be restricted. The study suggests that such alternatives may be useful in future pandemics at least for a short term.

Reciprocal dynamics between patients' choice of place and how they experience video consultations: A qualitative study

Elle C. Luchau et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the reciprocal dynamics between patients' choice of place and their experience with video consultations (VCs) with general practitioners. It found that boundaries were fluid and complex between different contexts and places, such as the home, workplace, and clinic. Video consultations redefined patients' and general practitioners' roles, with patients taking on more responsibility in securing a suitable healthcare setting.
