Purpose in Life May Delay Adverse Health Outcomes in Old Age

Patricia A. Boyle et al.

Summary: A higher level of purpose in life is associated with a later onset of Alzheimer's dementia and later mortality in older adults. This association remains significant even after controlling for sex and education level. Increasing purpose in life among older individuals may delay the onset of dementia and improve overall health.
