The African urban food environment framework for creating healthy nutrition policy and interventions in urban Africa

Summary: This study developed and validated a framework of factors influencing dietary behaviours in urban African food environments, by drawing on concept mapping and a mixed-methods research approach. The final framework included 103 factors across individual, social, physical, and macro levels, providing a useful tool for understanding dietary transitions and intervention strategies in urban African adolescents and adults. Additionally, contextual factors that were not present in existing high-income country frameworks were identified, emphasizing the importance of adapting interventions to specific contexts in Africa.
