Angle resolved second harmonic technique for precise evaluation of spin orbit torque in strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy systems

Takanori Shirokura et al.

Summary: This paper demonstrates the potential underestimation or overestimation of spin orbit torque from low field second harmonic data due to various thermal effects. A generalized angle resolved second harmonic technique is proposed to accurately estimate SOT in strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy systems by separating it from thermal contributions.

Switching of a Magnet by Spin-Orbit Torque from a Topological Dirac Semimetal

Jinjun Ding et al.

Summary: Recent experiments have shown that topological surface states (TSS) in a topological Dirac semimetal α-Sn can induce current-induced magnetization switching in ferromagnets without the need for an external magnetic field, demonstrating similar efficiency to topological insulators (TI) systems.

Planar Hall effect in c-axis textured films of Bi85Sb15 topological insulator

Ramesh C. Budhani et al.

Summary: Measurements of the planar Hall effect and anisotropic magnetoresistance in polycrystalline films of topological insulator Bi85Sb15 show behavior similar to in-plane field transport in metallic ferromagnetic thin films, with differing amplitudes and sign reversal near 160 K. Comparisons with reported planar Hall effect of topological insulators and Weyl semimetals are made, discussing possible scenarios for anisotropic backscattering of charge carriers in this non-magnetic alloy.

Observation of planar Hall effect in topological insulator-Bi2Te3

Archit Bhardwaj et al.

Summary: The Planar Hall effect in topological insulators is mainly attributed to conduction from topologically protected surface states, but our study on Bi2Te3 thin films highlights the importance of considering bulk conduction as well. Observations of unconventional increases in the Planar Hall effect signal with thickness and temperature suggest that bulk effects may play a significant role in topological insulators.

Low power spin-orbit torque switching in sputtered BiSb topological insulator/perpendicularly magnetized CoPt/MgO multilayers on oxidized Si substrate

Tuo Fan et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that sputtered BiSb topological insulators in Pt/Co/Pt-MgO heterostructures have high effective spin Hall angle and electrical conductivity, allowing for magnetization switching at low current densities. This highlights the high efficiency and robustness of BiSb as a spin current source in realistic SOT-MRAM applications.

Spin-orbit torques and magnetotransport properties of α-Sn and β-Sn heterostructures

Federico Binda et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively characterizes the growth, magnetotransport properties, and current-induced spin-orbit torques of alpha-Sn and beta-Sn-based ferromagnetic heterostructures. The findings suggest that alpha-Sn grown with a Bi surfactant demonstrates large spin-orbit torques, making it a promising material for current-induced magnetization control in spintronic devices.
