Temporomandibular joint involvement in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis-Symptoms, clinical signs and radiographic findings

Malin Collin et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the diagnosis of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) involvement in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) through patient history and clinical examination. The results suggest that self-reported TMJ symptoms and smaller MUO with pain may indicate TMJ involvement, although radiographic examinations are necessary for confirmation. The study indicates that the RDC/TMD protocol may be a blunt tool for targeting TMJ involvement in JIA.

Salivary biomarkers for caries susceptibility and mental stress in individuals with facial pain

Claudia Monteiro de Andrade et al.

Summary: In young adults with perceived facial pain, differences in salivary flow rate values, especially in women, were observed. There were distinct correlations among salivary biomarkers for caries susceptibility and cortisol levels in the facial pain group compared to controls. Higher SFR values were associated with a lower likelihood of having facial pain, potentially indicating a connection between saliva dynamics, stress response, and facial pain perception.

Juvenile idiopathic arthritis: from aetiopathogenesis to therapeutic approaches

Lina N. Zaripova et al.

Summary: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is classified into different subtypes based on the number of affected joints, extra-articular manifestations, systemic symptoms, serology and genetic factors; advances have been made in understanding the pathogenesis of JIA, including etiology, histopathology, and treatment options.
