Pesticides pollution and risk assessment of river Ganga: A review

Zeshan Umar Shah et al.

Summary: This article compiled studies on pesticide toxicity in different stretches of the Ganga river over the past years, highlighting the high risk of DDT and aldrin in the middle stretch. It emphasizes the importance of regular monitoring and compartmental studies to assess pesticide pollution load and persistence in the river, due to the extensive formulations used in the basin for agricultural purposes.

Pesticide residues in Rita rita and Cyprinus carpio from river Ganga, India, and assessment of human health risk

Zeshan Umar Shah et al.

Summary: The present study investigated the concentration and bioaccumulation of pesticide residues in bagrid fish and common carp from the Ganges River in Narora, India. The bioaccumulation factor (BAF) in bagrid fish was higher than in common carp, and the estimated daily intake (EDI) values were slightly higher than the Average daily intake (ADI) values. The Target hazard quotient (THQ) was found to be below 1.0, suggesting a non-carcinogenic risk, except for heptachlor which indicated a carcinogenic risk.
