Forecasting intraspecific changes in distribution of a wide-ranging marine predator under climate change

Yuri Niella et al.

Summary: This study tracked 115 tiger sharks to investigate the movement behavior and distribution changes of females and juvenile males, revealing that temperature change is a key factor influencing shark movements. By incorporating predicted prey distribution into habitat projections, the accuracy of suitable habitat predictions for all shark classes was significantly improved.

Species on the move around the Australian coastline: A continental-scale review of climate-driven species redistribution in marine systems

Connor R. Gervais et al.

Summary: Climate-driven changes in species distribution are pervasive and accelerating, with Australian waters experiencing significant redistribution of species towards poleward regions. There are still gaps in knowledge regarding species redistribution in the southern hemisphere, highlighting the need for further research and efforts in this rapidly emerging field.

Come together: calibration of tiger shark (Galeocerdo cuvier) microsatellite databases for investigating global population structure and assignment of historical specimens

M. Sort et al.

Summary: This study provides the first standardized global microsatellite database for tiger sharks, elucidating the global population structure of the species. Through the use of a calibration key, data from three different laboratories were merged, increasing statistical power and showing significant genetic differentiation between Atlantic and Indo-Pacific samples. By applying this calibration approach, historical samples can also be assigned back to their population of origin, improving the resolution of population structure analysis.

Reviewing the genetic evidence for sex-biased dispersal in elasmobranchs

Nicole M. Phillips et al.

Summary: Current studies indicate the presence of some degree of male-biased dispersal in elasmobranchs, but factors such as the pooling of different life stages during data analysis and the inherent characteristics of different marker types may lead to an overemphasis on male dispersal, potentially obscuring genetic signals of female and male reproductive philopatry.
