Analysis of spray/wall impingement using an ECN single-hole injector and a controlled wall under realistic conditions

Jesus E. Peraza et al.

Summary: Spray-wall interactions have a significant impact on fuel combustion and emissions formation, but their underlying physics remain unclear. This study investigates the phenomenon of spray-wall interaction and its influence on spray behavior using a thermoregulated steel wall. The results show that the exposure to a cold wall can delay high-temperature chemical reactions, while the wall temperature does not affect the location of the lift-off length.

High-frequency wall heat flux measurement during wall impingement of a diffusion flame

Julien Moussou et al.

Summary: This study focuses on measuring the heat flux generated by diesel spray impingement on a wall in internal combustion engines, showing strong gas-wall thermal exchange. Investigations were also conducted on the effects of ambient gas temperature, injection pressure, and injector-wall distance variations.

Investigation of evaporating sprays in a medium speed marine engine

Haohan Li et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the evaporating sprays for medium speed marine engines using optical measurements, explores the effects of ambient gas temperature and density on spray penetration, proposes empirical correlations for spray penetration, and suggests a time-dependent injection pressure profile for calculation of spray penetration. The study also compares the effects of gas turbulence on spray characteristics under different ambient gas densities and engine loads.

Investigation of fuel volatility on the heat transfer dynamics on piston surface due to the pulsed spray impingement

Zhi-Fu Zhou et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of fuel volatility on the dynamic heat transfer of pulsed spray impingement in a GDI engine. Results show that different fuel sprays are sensitive to changes in injection temperature and distance, as well as boiling points and enthalpies of vaporization. The heat transfer dynamics are greatly influenced by these factors, affecting combustion efficiency and emissions.
