Generalized hybrid anapole modes in all-dielectric ellipsoid particles [Invited]

Anar K. Ospanova et al.

Summary: The passage discusses various exciting optical effects associated with toroidal electrodynamics in all-dielectric high-refractive-index structures, including anapoles, hybrid anapole modes, and novel anapole classifications. These effects are crucial for the design of light controlling devices, reflectionless metasurfaces, high Q-factor opened resonators, and nonscattering particle development.

Colossal magnetic fields in high refractive index materials at microwave frequencies

B. Lukyanchuk et al.

Summary: Resonant scattering of electromagnetic waves is a widely studied phenomenon with applications in various fields, and new fundamental aspects continue to be uncovered in emerging areas like metamaterials and quantum optics. This research demonstrates a novel phenomenon in the scattered near field of medium sized objects made of high refractive index materials, generating colossal local magnetic fields.

Theory, Observation, and Ultrafast Response of the Hybrid Anapole Regime in Light Scattering

Adria Canos Valero et al.

Summary: This study predicts and experimentally observes a novel nanoscale structure called a hybrid anapole (HA) with mixed electric and magnetic properties, which can resonantly decrease radiation from nanoresonators by suppressing multipole responses through magnetic toroidal terms. This structure has the ability to form multiple anapoles by breaking spherical symmetry, allowing for the design of non-Huygens metasurfaces for perfect transparency in the stationary regime and controllable ultrashort pulse beatings in the transient regime.

Anapole Meta-Atoms: Nonradiating Electric and Magnetic Sources

Esmaeel Zanganeh et al.

Summary: The study shows the existence of nonradiating electromagnetic sources and demonstrates the total suppression of far-field radiation through anapole states. Experimental validation of theoretical predictions opens up possibilities for compact nonradiative sources in modern wireless power transfer systems, sensors, RFID tags, and medical technologies.

Using the Starlight Polarization Efficiency Integral to Constrain Shapes and Porosities of Interstellar Grains

B. T. Draine et al.

Summary: A new method is developed using observed starlight polarization and polarized submillimeter emission to constrain the shapes and porosities of interstellar grains, supported by the modified picket-fence approximation. The strength of observed polarization, efficiency of grain types, and alignment of grains are determined through various integrals, leading to constraints on the minimum degree of asphericity for grains. The same grains producing starlight polarization also provide polarized emission at submillimeter wavelengths, with additional limits on shape and porosity.
