Pollution and contamination level of Cu, Cd, and Hg heavy metals in soil and food crop

Ramlan et al.

Summary: The study assessed the accumulation of Cu, Cd, and Hg heavy metals in soil and their contamination in plant tissues in Grand Forest Park, Palu, Indonesia. Significant correlations were found between Cd and Hg concentrations in soil and plant tissues. Transfer factor values indicated higher accumulation of Hg in plants compared to Cu and Cd.

Probabilistic health risk assessment for residents exposed to potentially toxic elements near typical mining areas in China

Huijuan Hao et al.

Summary: Public health problems caused by toxic elements in mining areas have always been an important topic worldwide. This study assessed the health risks of 14 potentially toxic elements through five exposure routes in three mining areas in central China. The results showed that residents faced serious health risks, especially children. This study provides valuable information for comprehensively evaluating the potential health risks faced by residents in mining areas and formulating reasonable risk control measures.

Urbanization influences the distribution, enrichment, and ecological health risk of heavy metals in croplands

Salar Rezapour et al.

Summary: The contamination of urban soils with heavy elements due to urbanization has become a major environmental challenge. This study reveals that urban farmlands have higher concentrations of heavy metals compared to non-urban soils. The mobility of certain metals in plants is limited, indicating that they are not extensively transferred from the roots. Additionally, the carcinogenic risk is higher for children than for adults.

Plasma Hsp90 levels in patients with systemic sclerosis and relation to lung and skin involvement: a cross-sectional and longitudinal study

Hana Storkanova et al.

Summary: According to the study, plasma levels of Hsp90 are increased in patients with systemic sclerosis compared to healthy controls, and are associated with increased inflammatory activity, worsened lung function, and extent of skin involvement in patients with diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis. In patients with systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease treated with cyclophosphamide, baseline Hsp90 levels can predict changes in DLCO over 12 months of therapy.

Heavy metal pollution characteristics and health risk evaluation of soil around a tungsten-molybdenum mine in Luoyang, China

Wang Hui et al.

Summary: This study investigated the heavy metal pollution in soil around a tungsten-molybdenum mining area in southwestern Luoyang, Henan Province, China. The results showed severe pollution, with Cd posing the greatest ecological threat. Oral intake was identified as the main exposure pathway, with lower risks from respiratory inhalation and skin contact. Children were found to be at higher risk of heavy metal pollution compared to adults.

Mercury horizontal spatial distribution in paddy field and accumulation of mercury in rice as well as their influencing factors in a typical mining area of Tongren City, Guizhou, China

Jingjing Du et al.

Summary: The study found that mercury contamination in soil and rice was severe, with uneven spatial distribution, and complex relationship between rice and soil Hg content. Available potassium in soil was identified as a key factor affecting mercury accumulation in rice.
