Exact dynamic analysis of multi-segment cable systems

Han Fei et al.

Summary: This study proposed a unified dynamic model considering factors such as cable sag, additional cable force, flexural stiffness, and support stiffness of lateral components for the first time, and used the dynamic stiffness method to investigate the dynamic characteristics of the multi-segment cable system. Results show that the position of lateral supports has a significant impact on the modes, and installing the supports equidistantly can achieve the maximum frequency value.

Optimal strain-gauge placement for mechanical load estimation in circular cross-section shafts

X. Iriarte et al.

Summary: In this paper, a method using quarter-bridges to measure individual strain gauges and jointly estimate all mechanical loads exerted on a shaft was presented. The optimal placement of gauges and avoidance of temperature-related apparent strain were highlighted, along with various configurations capable of accurately estimating mechanical loads. Experimental validation in a dedicated rig demonstrated the complexity of implementation.
