Experimental characterization of the moment-angle curve during level and slope locomotion of transtibial amputee: Which parameters can be extracted to quantify the adaptations of microprocessor prosthetic ankle?

Julie Davot et al.

Summary: This study investigated the performance of three Microprocessor Prosthetic Ankles (MPA) compared to an Energy Storing and Return (ESR) foot in different walking conditions, showing better angle adaptation but decreased energy available for propulsion in all MPAs tested. The study highlights the relevance of parameters extracted from the moment-angle curve (MAC) for evaluating the behavior of MPA and emphasizes the relationship between range of motion and available energy when using different prosthetic feet in various walking conditions.

Microprocessor prosthetic ankles: comparative biomechanical evaluation of people with transtibial traumatic amputation during standing on level ground and slope

Summary: The study found that microprocessor prosthetic ankles (MPAs) can improve posture and reduce residual knee moment, especially on inclined surfaces. MPA2 showed the best control of the Center of Pressure (CoP) in all situations.
