Cognitive glucose sensitivity-proposing a link between cognitive performance and reliance on external glucose uptake

Tobias Neukirchen et al.

Summary: Existing evidence on the effects of glucose supplementation on cognitive performance appears inconclusive. This study proposes a new concept called cognitive glucose sensitivity (CGS) and finds significant correlations between CGS and baseline performance across different cognitive domains. Individual CGS also differs significantly between tasks. In men, there is a significant relationship between BMI and CGS in one specific task. These findings suggest that the effects of glucose supplementation depend on CGS, task domain, and sex.
