Hybrid Convolutional Optoelectronic Reservoir Computing for Image Recognition

Philip Jacobson et al.

Summary: This article introduces a novel hybrid scheme of photonic delay-based reservoir computers (RC) that preprocess input data through convolutional layers and then process them through an optoelectronic implementation of delay-based RC. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme achieves comparable classification performance to state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms and significantly reduces model training time.

Virtual reservoir computer using an optical resonator

Somayeh Boshgazi et al.

Summary: Reservoir computing is a machine learning approach that allows the use of recurrent neural networks without the complexity of training algorithms and enables hardware implementation. Researchers present a novel photonic architecture for a reservoir computer using a nonlinear node and a resonator to implement a virtual recurrent neural network. The performance of the proposed reservoir is tested on three benchmark tasks and shows improved memory capacity and reliable results compared to delay-based systems.

Effect of excited state lasing on the chaotic dynamics of spin QD-VCSELs

Panagiotis Georgiou et al.

Summary: This study numerically investigates the chaotic dynamics of optically pumped quantum-dot spin vertically coupled surface emitting lasers, considering both ground state and excited state energy levels. The intensity dynamics of excited state and ground state transitions are studied through the elaboration of a spin-flip model, and it is found that although they exhibit similar nonlinear dynamics, they are weakly correlated, which can be utilized for implementing various functionalities.
