Maternal dietary fat intake during pregnancy and newborn body composition

Natalie A. Damen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between maternal dietary fat intake during pregnancy and newborn adiposity. The results showed that maternal fat intake during pregnancy was correlated with infant percent body fat, especially during the second trimester. This suggests that the second trimester is a crucial period for fetal adipose tissue metabolic programming and may be a target for nutritional intervention.

Nutrient Intake during Pregnancy and Adherence to Dietary Recommendations: The Mediterranean PHIME Cohort

Federica Concina et al.

Summary: This study investigated the dietary habits and nutrient intake of pregnant women from four countries in the Mediterranean region, finding that women generally had inadequate nutrition intake, including excess intake of sugars and fats, and deficiencies in micronutrients such as iron, folate, and vitamin D. It is recommended that shared guidelines be implemented at both national and European levels to improve maternal nutritional status during pregnancy.
