An evaluation of machine learning classifiers for next-generation, continuous-ethogram smart trackers

Hui Yu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated machine learning methods for on-board classification of accelerometer data into behavior categories. SVM, ANN, RF and XGBoost showed good performance in determining behavior, even when reducing input features. ANN, RF and XGBoost were identified as suitable on-board classifiers based on runtime and storage tests.

R package for animal behavior classification from accelerometer data-rabc

Hui Yu et al.

Summary: The study introduces a package called rabc to assist researchers in developing animal behavior classifiers using supervised classification approach. This package includes workflow for accelerometer data visualization, feature calculation, selection, extreme gradient boost model training, validation, and demonstration of behavior classification results using an example dataset on white stork.
