Use of Off-ASTM Class F Fly Ash and Waste Limestone Powder in Mortar Mixtures Containing Waste Glass Sand

Chang-Seon Shon et al.

Summary: Developing sustainable concrete with less cement and incorporating industrial by-products and municipal solid wastes can reduce resource consumption and carbon dioxide emission. The combined use of fly ash and limestone powder has a positive effect on strength and expansion characteristics when used with waste glass sand.

Mechanical Properties of Reactive Powder Concrete with Coal Gangue as Sand Replacement

Wen Luo et al.

Summary: This study investigated the possibility of using coal gangue as a replacement for river sand in reactive powder concrete (RPC) to obtain higher-strength concrete. The results showed that the use of coal gangue reduced the working performance, compressive strength, and flexural strength of RPC. Microscopic analysis revealed that increasing the coal gangue replacement ratio inhibited cement hydration, weakened the interface transition zone, and led to the degradation of RPC performance. Modification of coal gangue would be beneficial in obtaining higher-strength concrete.

Flow assessment and development towards sustainable self-consolidating concrete using blended basalt and limestone-cement systems

Dima Youness et al.

Summary: The study compared the flow assessment of partial replacement of cement using Basalt powder (BP) in developing Self-Consolidating Concrete (SCC) with Limestone powder (LP), showing that mixtures with more than 15% BP replacement had higher yield stress values, and BP mixtures generally had higher viscosity values except for those with 15%-20% replacement where LP had slightly higher values. Due to the morphological and chemical nature of volcanic powder BP, mixtures with BP replacement showed superior and durable compressive strength development at 56 days.

Transition Zone Enhancement with Waste Limestone Powder as a Reason for Concrete Compressive Strength Increase

Maja Kepniak et al.

Summary: The study examines the effect of modifying cement concrete with waste limestone powder, which is a byproduct of preparing aggregate for hot mix asphalt production. By conducting compressive strength tests with different substitution levels and water/cement ratios, the research found that the modified concrete exhibited increased strength due to enhanced transition zone mechanisms.

Influence of Silica Modulus and Curing Temperature on the Strength of Alkali-Activated Volcanic Ash and Limestone Powder Mortar

Adeshina Adewale Adewumi et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effect of silica modulus and curing temperature on the strengths and microstructures of binary blended alkali-activated volcanic ash and limestone powder mortar. Using a combination of Na2SiO3(aq)/10 M NaOH(aq) activators resulted in higher compressive strength and improved microstructural characteristics compared to the sole use of 10 M NaOH(aq) activator. Curing at higher temperatures positively enhanced strength development, with more than 70% of the 28-day compressive strength achieved within 12 hours of curing.

Study on influence of Metakaolin and waste marble powder on self-compacting concrete ? A state of the art review

Peerzada Danish et al.

Summary: The development of Self-compacting concrete (SCC) started in late 1980 in Japan. SCC is known for its self-consolidation and flowability without the need for external vibration, making it a popular choice for construction. Various industrial materials like Metakaolin and Waste Marble Powder have been explored to improve the efficiency and sustainability of SCC, with positive effects on properties like fresh state, hardened state, and durability. Research on SCC shows potential in reducing environmental pollution and offering cost-effective solutions.
