Numerical prediction of sheared edge profiles in sheet metal trimming using ductile fracture modeling

Shamik Basak et al.

Summary: This study investigates sheared edges of three automotive sheet metals using experimental and numerical analyses. The Hosford-Coulomb ductile fracture model is calibrated and incorporated into finite element simulations to predict trimmed surface quality and burr formations. Results show differences in shear zone and burr height among TRIP steel, hot-stamped steel, and aluminum alloy 5182, with aluminum alloy being more sensitive to cutting clearance.

Enhanced CDM model accounting of stress triaxiality and Lode angle for ductile damage prediction in metal forming

Kai Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper presents a method for predicting ductile damage by using the CDM approach fully coupled with advanced elastoplastic constitutive equations. The fully coupled damage model takes into account stress triaxiality and Lode angle to enhance damage evolution. The proposed constitutive equations are implemented in the FE code ABAQUS/Explicit, and the model's predictive capabilities have been validated through tests on aluminum alloys.

New ductile fracture model for fracture prediction ranging from negative to high stress triaxiality

Zengli Peng et al.

Summary: In this study, a new uncoupled ductile fracture model is established in the stress space by considering key factors affecting the initiation of ductile fracture. The proposed model is validated through experimental tests and compared with four typical ductile fracture criteria, showing good stability and accuracy in predicting fracture strain, especially in high stress triaxiality range. The asymmetry of the fracture locus and the realistic stress space are also discussed at the end.

Robust characterization of anisotropic shear fracture strains with constant triaxiality using shape optimization of torsional twin bridge specimen

Yongnam Kim et al.

Summary: By presenting a shape optimization framework for a twin bridge specimen and utilizing TRIP1180 sheet as the target material, this study successfully improved performance while ensuring better machinability. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed framework can maintain zero triaxiality up to fracture occurrence.

Summary: The study investigates the importance of the r-value in sheet metal forming, as well as the potential issues that may arise when neglecting the strain dependence of r. Conclusions are drawn from experimental comparisons and numerical simulations on different materials.
