Impact of sand and filler materials on the hydration behavior of calcium aluminate cement

Alexander Engbert et al.

Summary: The research discovered that fillers have a significant impact on the hydration of CAC, especially materials such as microsilica, fine limestone powder, and α- and γ-Al(2)O(3) which accelerate the reaction. This acceleration effect depends on the specific surface area of the fillers, where the negative surface charge of the fillers attracts calcium ions, facilitating the hydration of CAC.

Nickel plated carbon nanotubes reinforcing concrete composites: from nano/micro structures to macro mechanical properties

Sufen Dong et al.

Summary: Nickel-plated carbon nanotubes (Ni-CNTs) with different aspect ratios significantly impact the mechanical properties of reactive powder concrete (RPC). Incorporating Ni-CNTs with aspect ratio of 1000 enhances compressive strength, while aspect ratio of 125 improves flexural strength, and aspect ratio of 1500 increases toughness through better dispersibility and pining effect of nickel coating.

Effects of nano-SiO2 coated multi-walled carbon nanotubes on mechanical properties of cement-based composites

Shaojie Li et al.

Summary: The interfacial microstructure and interactions significantly impact the mechanical properties of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) reinforced cement-based composites. By preparing SiO2/MWCNTs nanocomposites using PVP as a surfactant without oxidation treatment on MWCNTs, the adhesion of MWCNTs-cement composites was improved, leading to enhanced flexural strengths of cement mortars. The addition of SiO2/MWCNTs effectively increased the C-S-H gel content at the interface between MWCNTs and cement matrix, resulting in the significant enhancement of mechanical properties.

Synergistic effect of carbon nanotube/TiO2 nanotube multi-scale reinforcement on the mechanical properties and hydration process of portland cement paste

Junxing Liu et al.

Summary: The study found that at the optimal CNT/TNT ratio, the hybrid carbon nanotube and titanium dioxide nanotube can significantly improve the mechanical properties and hydration rate of cement paste. Using multi-scale hybrid CNT/TNT can be a new nano reinforcing method for various cementitious materials.
