Influence of Dwell Time and Pressure on SPS Process with Titanium Aluminides

Bernd-Arno Behrens et al.

Summary: Spark plasma sintering is an efficient technique for processing powders that are difficult to consolidate, and this study investigates the influence of holding pressure and dwell time on the consolidation behavior of titanium aluminide powders. The results show that these parameters significantly impact the sintering outcomes.

Influence of annealing environments on the conduction behaviour of KNN-based ceramics

Sushmita Dwivedi et al.

Summary: The electrical conduction behavior of lead-free BiZnNbO ceramics annealed in different atmospheres was studied, with the sample annealed in oxygen environment showing the lowest conductivity due to reduced oxygen vacancy defects. An anomaly observed at 250 degrees Celsius in dielectric plots for certain samples was attributed to defect relaxation.

Densification mechanism of Zr-based bulk metallic glass prepared by two-step spark plasma sintering

Huaping Ding et al.

Summary: A two-step spark plasma sintering process for amorphous alloys was proposed, and its effects on densification mechanisms, microstructure, and mechanical properties were studied. Results showed significant improvements in density and fracture strength of sintered samples, even at reduced sintering temperatures, due to the lower-temperature pretreatment process enhancing powder billet quality and sintering process.

Grain and grain boundary contributions to AC conductivity in ferroelectric Ba0.75Pb0.25Ti1-xZrxO3 ceramics

Ruhul Amin et al.

Summary: The study investigated the properties of Zr-substituted Ba0.75Pb0.25Ti1-xZrxO3 perovskite series, revealing coexistence of tetragonal and orthorhombic phases, absence of morphotropic phase boundary, and modification of electrical properties with Zr concentration, along with excellent energy storage performance for all samples. The materials exhibited a high dielectric constant and low loss above room temperature, making them promising candidates for various technological applications.

Modification of grain boundary potential barriers by annealing treatments of PTCR ceramics with identical microstructure and room-temperature resistivity

Jennifer M. Prohinig et al.

Summary: The electrical properties of semiconducting BaTiO3-based ceramics are influenced by different oxidative post-sintering treatments, which modify the grain boundary potential barrier height and width by adjusting the concentration of vacancies. Additionally, annealing at 1100 degrees C affects the temperature development of spontaneous polarization by filling up oxygen vacancies within the grain bulk. These findings extend existing knowledge about defect equilibria in barium titanate and highlight the significant impact of process parameters on the electrical properties of electroceramics.

In Situ Graded Ceramic/Reduced Graphene Oxide Composites Manufactured by Spark Plasma Sintering

Cristina Ramirez et al.

Summary: The study successfully combines two key strategies for manufacturing advanced ceramics, developing functionally graded materials and adding graphene-based fillers to a ceramic matrix. A silicon nitride/reduced graphene oxide FGM composite is produced using spark plasma sintering (SPS) technique. The FGM composite exhibits gradients in matrix grain size and alpha-phase content, and the presence of graphene-based fillers reduces mechanical gradients compared to monolithic silicon nitride FGM.
