Composite psychosocial risk based on the fear avoidance model in patients undergoing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction: Cluster-based analysis

Rogelio A. Coronado et al.

Summary: This study found that preoperative fear-avoidance model (FAM) risk subgroups were associated with patient expectation of surgical success, and moderate-to-high FAM risk patients had worse outcomes in terms of return to sport, quality of life, and knee function at 6 and 12 months after ACL reconstruction. Higher patient expectations were also linked to poorer outcomes in knee function and quality of life.
