Two-dimensional optical gap solitons and vortices in a coherent atomic ensemble loaded on optical lattices

Zhiming Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the formation, properties, and stability of two-dimensional localized gap modes in coherent atomic systems loaded on optical lattices with EIT. By using the nonlinear Schrodinger equation, the research provides insights into soliton dynamics and lays the groundwork for applications such as optical communications and quantum information processing.

Localized gap modes of coherently trapped atoms in an optical lattice

Zhiming Chen et al.

Summary: Localized gap modes in one-dimensional coherent atomic gases were theoretically investigated using Lambda-type three-level configuration and the multiple scales method. Fundamental gap solitons and dipole gap modes were discovered, and their (in)stability regions in the band-gap spectrum were confirmed through systematic numerical simulations. These predicted results may expand the nonlinear horizon in coherent atomic gases and provide new opportunities for optical communication and information processing.

Selection and cloning of periodic optical patterns with a cold Rydberg atomic gas

Zeyun Shi et al.

Summary: Periodic optical patterns formed in a cold Rydberg atomic gas via electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) can be selected using a weakly modulated control laser field. Additionally, patterns prepared in one probe laser field can be cloned onto another one with high fidelity via a double EIT.

Multifrequency Solitons in Commensurate-Incommensurate Photonic Moire Lattices

Yaroslav Kartashov et al.

Summary: The photonic moire patterns created by two mutually twisted periodic sublattices in quadratic nonlinear media can allow the formation of parametric solitons, with the geometry of the pattern significantly impacting the conditions for soliton excitation and the properties of soliton families. The geometry also broadens the phase-mismatch bandwidth for soliton generation compared to latticeless structures.

Spin-Twisted Optical Lattices: Tunable Flat Bands and Larkin-Ovchinnikov Superfluids

Xi-Wang Luo et al.

Summary: The study explores the Moiré physics emerging from twisting two independent hexagonal optical lattices of atomic spin states, showing potential for magic twist angles to support gapped flat bands. Enhanced density of states near the flat bands can lead to superfluidity driven by weak attractive interactions, with the superfluid phase corresponding to a Larkin-Ovchinnikov state with finite momentum pairing. This work may lead to novel quantum phases and twistronics in cold atomic systems.

Magic-angle lasers in nanostructured moire superlattice

Xin-Rui Mao et al.

Summary: A new type of optical device called magic-angle laser has been proposed and developed in this study, utilizing twisted photonic graphene superlattices for localized feedback of light fields. Unlike conventional laser cavities, magic-angle lasers do not require discontinuity of material property or disorder, and can achieve strong field confinement and high quality factor nanocavities through a simple twist.

Talbot effect of an electromagnetically induced square photonic lattice assisted by a spatial light modulator

Shaohuan Ning et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the Talbot effect in an electromagnetically induced square photonic lattice formed under the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) condition in a three-level Rb-85 atomic configuration. Two-dimensional lattice patterns are generated by diffraction of a Gaussian probe field through a vapor cell, where the refractive index is modulated by a coupling field with a two-dimensional periodic intensity distribution. Experimental observations match theoretical predictions, providing a new approach for creating desired photonic lattices and expanding studies of the electromagnetically induced Talbot effect to two-dimensional space.

Transport of light in a moving photonic lattice via atomic coherence

Zhaoyang Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a moving lattice with a tunable velocity was experimentally realized in a three-level atomic medium. By introducing a frequency difference, a dynamic photonic lattice was constructed to guide the transport of light. The results show that the induced photonic structures exhibit dynamic features, with diffraction patterns shifting along the transverse direction.

Quantum droplets in two-dimensional optical lattices

Yi-Yin Zheng et al.

Summary: We studied the stability of zero-vorticity and vortex lattice quantum droplets described by a 2D GP equation, finding the stability areas for different numbers of sites and vorticities. The relationship between mu and N for stable LQDs may violate the VK criterion, and two types of vortex LQDs with the same number of sites were found to be degenerate, while zero-vorticity LQDs were not. The offsite-centered LQDs with zero-vorticity and vortex LQDs with S = 1 were heterogeneous.

Dark matter-wave gap solitons in dense ultracold atoms trapped by a one-dimensional optical lattice

Jiawei Li et al.

Summary: The paper explores creating stable matter-wave dark gap solitons in a one-dimensional optical lattice using self-defocusing quintic nonlinearity loaded BECs. It compares the structures and properties of dark gap solitons in quintic nonlinearity to those upheld by cubic Kerr nonlinearity, revealing that dark gap solitons are stable in the first finite band gap of the linear spectrum but hard to stabilize in the second gap. The predicted dark gap solitons are observable in current experiments on dense ultracold atoms and in the optics domain for nonlinear light propagation in periodic optical media with quintic nonlinearity.
