Detection of Escherichia coli K12 in Water Using Slot Waveguide in Cascaded Ring Resonator

Parisa Sanati et al.

Summary: Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria can pose serious health risks and early detection is crucial. A plasmonic slot waveguide was used in a double stage ring resonator (DSRR) for label-free detection of E. coli K12 in drinking water. The sensor showed high sensitivity and microscale size compared to conventional methods.

A theoretical study on sensing properties of in-doped ZnO nanosheet toward acetylene

Peilong Xu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that indium doping can significantly enhance the sensitivity and selectivity of ZnO nanosheets to acetylene gas. The adsorption energy of acetylene increases significantly after indium doping, with the interaction mainly attributed to electrostatic forces. The indium-doped ZnO nanosheets can selectively detect acetylene in the presence of other gases and exhibit a short recovery time.

Mechanochemical reactions of GaN-Al2O3 interface at the nanoasperity contact: Roles of crystallographic polarity and ambient humidity

Jian Guo et al.

Summary: The study investigates the mechanochemical reactions at the GaN-Al2O3 interface under different environmental humidity conditions, revealing that the N-face exhibits stronger mechanochemical removal than the Ga-face. Increased water molecules in the environment significantly promote interfacial mechanochemical reactions, accelerating atomic attrition on the N-face. The hypothesized mechanism of selective water-involved mechanochemical removal is associated with the dangling bond configuration, altering the activation energy barrier to form bonding bridges across the sliding interface.

Motion Planning and Adaptive Neural Tracking Control of an Uncertain Two-Link Rigid-Flexible Manipulator With Vibration Amplitude Constraint

Qingxin Meng et al.

Summary: This article discusses an uncertain two-link rigid-flexible manipulator with vibration amplitude constraint, and aims to achieve its position control through motion planning and adaptive tracking approach. The motion trajectories planning for the manipulator's two links can guarantee reaching desired angles and suppress vibration, while the adaptive tracking controller enables the two links to track the planned trajectories under various uncertainties. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy and the superior performance of motion planning and tracking controller.

Optimum light transmission via microring resonator under a lossy-coupler critical coupling condition

Mahdi Bahadoran et al.

Summary: The study derived the optical transfer function for add-drop resonator (ADR) using the signal flow graph method, investigated the impact of critical coupling and coupler loss on light transmission, and introduced a semi-empirical equation to correlate the geometric design of coupling gap with coupling strength parameters. The achieved results can be applied in optical communication technology and photonic sensor applications.

An innovative echo detection system with STM32 gated and PMT adjustable gain for airborne LiDAR

Guoqing Zhou et al.

Summary: This paper designs a LiDAR echo signal detection timing control system to improve accuracy of experimental results by using an STM32 controller as a gated signal generator to adjust the gating trigger signal, avoid overly strong surface echo signals, and amplify weak underwater signals with PMT adjustable voltage control gain technology. The system reduces power consumption and load capacity by using STM32 instead of a traditional signal generator. Experimentally, the system can amplify underwater signals by at least 6-fold while avoiding the effect of the surface echo signal.

A high Q-factor photonic crystal microring-resonator based pressure sensor

Venkateswara Rao Kolli et al.

Summary: This work presents a high Q-factor photonic crystal microring resonator (PC-MRR) based pressure sensor designed using SOI technology. By integrating IO resonator and mechanical diaphragm on the diaphragm, the sensor shows high sensitivity and Q-factor. The shift in resonant wavelength at the drop port of the PC-MRR is observed with increasing pressure, demonstrating a linear wavelength shift in the output characteristics for the pressure range of 0 to 6 MPa.

Summary: In this paper, the behavior of light within a double Vernier Panda-ring resonator (DVPR) is investigated using the signal flow graph technique in the Z-domain and Mason's gain rule. It was found that the DVPR system has superior performance metrics such as extended FSR, structural dispersion, group delay, etc. In comparison with traditional Vernier ring-based filters, the DVPR design is more flexible and can provide different optical communication channels.
