Solubility of montelukast (as a potential treatment of COVID-19) in supercritical carbon dioxide: Experimental data and modelling

Seyed Ali Sajadian et al.

Summary: The solubility behavior of montelukast, a potential treatment for COVID-19, in supercritical carbon dioxide was studied under different temperature and pressure conditions. Empirical equations and equations of state were used to correlate the experimental data, and the results showed that Chrastil and Bartle models had the best correlations. Peng-Robinson and SAFT-VR Mie equations were also satisfactory in predicting the solubility. Finally, the thermodynamic parameters of the solution were calculated.

Chloroquine (antimalaria medication with anti SARS-CoV activity) solubility in supercritical carbon dioxide

Mahboubeh Pishnamazi et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the solubility of chloroquine in supercritical carbon dioxide and evaluate the influence of pressure and temperature on solubility. Experimental results showed that solubility of chloroquine was influenced by temperature and pressure, with temperature having a more profound and complicated effect. Different correlations were studied for predicting chloroquine solubility, with Mendez-Santiago-Teja's correlation showing the best performance in terms of average absolute relative deviation percent.

Measurement and Correlation of Solubility of Methylsalicylic Acid Isomers in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide

Shin-Wei Wang et al.

Summary: A semiflow type apparatus was used to study the solubility of isomers of methylsalicylic acid in supercritical carbon dioxide, with the solubility of salicylic acid in the same condition used as a validation. The solubility of the isomers was found to be within a specific range, and the newly measured solubility data correlated well with semiempirical models, confirming the consistency and accuracy of the results.

Tenoxicam (Mobiflex) Solubility in Carbon Dioxide under Supercritical Conditions

Samyar Zabihi et al.

Summary: The solubility of the active pharmaceutical ingredient, tenoxicam, was determined under supercritical conditions in CO2, showing a direct influence of pressure on solubility and a negative effect of temperature at low pressures. The Mendez-Santiago-Teja (MST) model had the best performance in correlating the solubility data, indicating a linear trend which can be utilized for data extrapolation.

Samyar Zabihi et al.

Summary: The solubility of salsalate in supercritical carbon dioxide was studied, revealing a significant influence of pressure and a dual effect of temperature on solubility. The experimental results were successfully correlated with density-based models, with the KJ model showing the lowest deviation. A self-consistency test based on the MST correlation demonstrated the capability to extrapolate drug solubility data, showcasing the importance of these simple correlations.

Experimental and thermodynamic modeling decitabine anti cancer drug solubility in supercritical carbon dioxide

Mahboubeh Pishnamazi et al.

Summary: Efficient processes for continuous manufacturing of solid dosage oral formulations are crucial in the pharmaceutical industry to implement the Quality-by-Design paradigm. Supercritical solvent-based manufacturing can be used in pharmaceutical processing due to its operational advantages. Solubility measurements are essential prior to evaluating the possibility of supercritical processing for a specific medicine, as demonstrated in this study on decitabine. The study found that the solubility of decitabine varied with temperature and pressure, with a direct relation to pressure and a temperature-dependence determined by the crossover pressure. Theoretical models were used to correlate the solubility data, with linear models showing the highest accuracy in predicting decitabine solubilities.
