Collagen and nano-hydroxyapatite interactions in alginate-based microcapsule provide an appropriate osteogenic microenvironment for modular bone tissue formation

Ayla Hassani et al.

Summary: Addition of nano-hydroxyapatite and collagen to alginate microcapsule hydrogel improved osteoblasts viability, reduced swelling and degradation ratios, and increased compressive strength. In addition, calcium deposits, increased intracellular calcium and alkaline phosphatase activity were found in the Alg-nHA-Col hydrogel.

Accelerated degradation of HAP/PLLA bone scaffold by PGA blending facilitates bioactivity and osteoconductivity

Cijun Shuai et al.

Summary: The addition of PGA into HAP/PLLA scaffold accelerated the degradation process, leading to increased degradation rate and pore formation, which promoted the deposition and growth of bone-like apatite as well as provided a favorable environment for osteoblast adhesion and proliferation. This led to excellent bone defect repair capacity demonstrated by the formation of abundant new bone tissue and blood vessel tissue, ultimately bridging both ends of the defect region after 8 weeks of implantation.

Effects of Fiber Cross-Angle Structures on the Mechanical Property of 3D Printed Scaffolds and Performance of Seeded MC3T3-E1 Cells

Han Liu et al.

Summary: This study utilized low-temperature 3D printing technology to construct a silk fibroin/collagen/hydroxyapatite composite scaffold, designed with different fiber cross-angle structures and subjected to various performance tests and cellular experiments. The results indicated that the 90 degrees fiber cross-angle structure significantly enhanced the mechanical properties of the scaffold, promoting cell proliferation and osteogenesis, providing insights into scaffold properties and applications.
