Summary: The study identified main active components in Eugenia uniflora and Syzygium samarangense plant extracts through docking and showed their potential as novel trypanocidal agents of natural origin. Results demonstrated the moderate in vitro anti-T. brucei activities of both extracts and their ability to treat anaemia, liver, and kidney damages induced by the infection in a dose dependent manner in vivo.

Toxicity of essential oil of Eugenia uniflora (L.) to Thaumastocoris peregrinus (Hemiptera: Thaumastocoridae) and selectivity to the parasitoid Cleruchoides noackae (Lin & Hubert) (Hymenoptera: Mymaridae)

Luma Dalmolin Stenger et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the toxicity of Eugenia uniflora essential oil to Thaumastocoris peregrinus and its selectivity on the parasitoid Cleruchoides noackae. The results showed that the essential oil had insecticidal potential on different life stages of T. peregrinus and was relatively safer for the parasitoid one day after parasitism. The major compounds found in the oil were calamen-10-one, silfiperferol-6-em-5-one, and germacrone.
