New Insight of Pyrrole-Like Nitrogen for Boosting Hydrogen Evolution Activity and Stability of Pt Single Atoms

Lei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the enhanced mechanisms between Pt single atoms and different types of nitrogen-doped support materials. The Pt catalyst shows improved hydrogen evolution reaction activity with an increase in pyrrole-like nitrogen content in the carbon nanotube support. The superior performance of the Pt single atom catalysts is attributed to the interaction between dyz and s orbitals of hydrogen and sp(3) hybrid orbital of nitrogen.

Template-free fabrication of MoP nanoparticles encapsulated in N-doped hollow carbon spheres for efficient alkaline hydrogen evolution

Jin Li et al.

Summary: Encapsulating transition metal phosphides into nitrogen-doped carbon materials is an effective strategy to enhance electrocatalytic performance. The synthesized MoP@NC hollow microspheres show excellent performance in alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction, attributed to their distinctive structure, high nitrogen-doping level, and synergistic effect between MoP and NC. Theoretical calculations suggest that the active sites of the catalyst mainly lie at Mo atoms adjacent to pyridinic N-doped carbon layer, and the interaction between MoP and pyridinic N atoms contributes to the enhanced HER performance.
