Coupling of molecular vibration and metasurface modes for efficient mid-infrared emission

Yoshiaki Nishijima et al.

Summary: Spectrally selective narrowband mid-infrared radiation absorbance and thermal emittance were achieved through mode coupling between a plasmonic metal-insulator-metal (MIM) metasurface and molecular vibrational mode resonances, with coupling efficiency ranging from approximately 3.9% to 6.6%. Experimentally observed pronounced resonant coupling behavior was well described by finite-difference time-domain simulations, indicating a new paradigm in photo-thermal energy conversion.

Demonstration of resonant tunneling effects in metal-double-insulator-metal (MI2M) diodes

Amina Belkadi et al.

Summary: Resonant tunneling effects in metal-double-insulator-metal (MIM-M-2) structures have been demonstrated using quantum-well engineering, achieving low resistance and high responsivity simultaneously. By varying the thickness of insulators, the characteristics of the MIM-M-2 quantum well can be modified to reach resonant quasi-bound states near zero-bias, leading to improved energy conversion efficiency.

Optical-Cavity-Induced Current

Garret Moddel et al.

Summary: The formation of a submicron optical cavity on one side of a metal-insulator-metal tunneling device induces an electrical current between the metal layers with no applied voltage. Various tests were conducted to eliminate experimental artifacts as possible causes for the observed electrical output. The fast transport and scattering times of hot charge carriers in these devices are consistent with a model involving energy increments from zero-point fluctuations.

Terahertz Rectennas on Flexible Substrates Based on One-Dimensional Metal-Insulator-Graphene Diodes

Andreas Hemmetter et al.

Summary: This study introduces a flexible rectenna based on a one-dimensional junction metal-insulator-graphene diode, capable of low-noise power detection at terahertz frequencies. Fabricated in scalable thin-film processes, the flexible rectenna exhibits high responsivity and low noise equivalent power.
