Impedance spectroscopy for perovskite solar cells: characterisation, analysis, and diagnosis

Elizabeth von Hauff et al.

Summary: Impedance spectroscopy (IS) has great potential for characterising and diagnosing perovskite solar cells (PSC), but interpretation of the data is challenging due to the many dynamic processes involved. This study proposes a universal framework for IS analysis on PSC, which includes reviewing timescales for electrical and electrochemical dynamics and guidelines for obtaining high quality impedance spectra. The study also introduces a universal equivalent circuit model (ECM) that can be used to parameterise material properties and monitor loss mechanisms in PSC.

Decoupling of Implied and External VOC Due to Ionic Movement Explaining Transient VOC Overshoot in Perovskite Solar Cells

Jan Herterich et al.

Summary: Perovskite solar cells exhibit an overshoot of the open-circuit voltage after switching off illumination, accompanied by a continuous decrease in photoluminescence intensity. This decoupling of external and implied V-OC is attributed to a strong gradient of majority charge carrier quasi-Fermi level near a nonideal contact. The magnitude of this gradient, influenced by mobile ionic species, decreases with light soaking, resulting in the absence of V-OC overshoot in fully light-soaked devices.

Fill Factor Assessment in Hole Selective Layer Free Carbon Electrode-Based Perovskite Solar Cells with 15.5% Certified Power Conversion Efficiency

Salma Zouhair et al.

Summary: This study found that high fill factors of up to 78.8% can be achieved through hole selective layer-free carbon-electrode perovskite solar cells. Non-radiative recombination contributes only 3% to the fill factor losses in optimized devices, while interface series resistance losses are identified as the main loss channel.

A 2D Model for Interfacial Recombination in Mesoscopic Perovskite Solar Cells with Printed Back Contact

Lukas Wagner et al.

Summary: This study introduces a physical model to explain 2D charge recombination in mesoscopic graphite-based perovskite solar cells, providing insights into interface recombination and design rules for optimal geometry of mesoporous layers. The research also highlights the necessity of a characteristic thick absorber layer to enhance photovoltage and identifies limiting recombination pathways for future device architectures.

Perovskite solar cells with atomically coherent interlayers on SnO2 electrodes

Hanul Min et al.

Summary: By introducing an interlayer between the electron-transporting and perovskite layers in perovskite solar cells, researchers have successfully enhanced charge extraction and transport from the perovskite, leading to higher power conversion efficiency and fewer interfacial defects. The coherent interlayer allowed the fabrication of devices with a certified efficiency of 25.5%, which maintained about 90% of its initial efficiency even after continuous light exposure for 500 hours. The findings provide guidelines for designing defect-minimizing interfaces in metal halide perovskites and electron-transporting layers.

Interfacial Passivation Engineering of Perovskite Solar Cells with Fill Factor over 82% and Outstanding Operational Stability on n-i-p Architecture

Bowen Yang et al.

Summary: The use of cyclohexylethylammonium iodide (CEAI) as an interface material successfully improved the fill factor and power conversion efficiency of perovskite solar cells. This was achieved through the formation of a 2D perovskite interlayer, which reduced trap-assisted recombination and enhanced surface hydrophobicity for outstanding stability.

Summary: The study found that X-ray can induce degradation of CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite films, resulting in the formation of metallic lead, and a significant decrease in nitrogen content within the first hour of X-ray exposure. This discovery could have applications in the field of X-ray sensors or detectors.
